“Twenty in Two”
When we started deputation eighteen months ago, our coworkers, Steve and Beth Gault, had just arrived in Yaoundé and there was no existing ministry there. Since that time, the Lord has been blessing greatly and there are now English classes meeting twice a week, a Bible study on Wednesday evenings, and, as of the first of this year, church services on Sunday mornings at Eglise Baptiste d’Odza. This young ministry is thriving in a brand new field for Baptist Mid-Missions, and the Lord’s hand is evidently at work. Naturally, it is our desire to be in Yaoundé as soon as possible to assist the Gaults in the ministry there, but there is an additional factor which necessitates our soon arrival in Cameroon.
In June of 2009, the Gaults will be returning to the States for their scheduled furlough. After talking with Steve and Vernon Rosenau, our administrator for Africa, we have determined that it would be wisest for us to be in Yaoundé for a year before the Gaults return home, as this would give us an adequate period of ministering alongside the Gaults and allow us to begin learning the language and culture with their help. If we are unable to spend this time in Yaoundé with the Gaults before they leave, it will likely be necessary for us to go to France for language school until the Gaults return to Cameroon, which will leave this young, thriving ministry without leadership or guidance for a year. Thus, our desire is to depart for Yaoundé this June and begin to be a part of the Lord’s work in Cameroon. The “catch” in all of this is that in order for us to be in Yaoundé by June of this year, we need to have our support raised by April 1st – just a short two months away.
The Lord has been blessing our deputation process, and we are currently at 80% of our needed support, which means that we have an additional twenty percent, or approximately $1060 per month, to raise in the next two months. The Lord provided us with a full schedule of meetings this past summer and fall as well as a full schedule through April 2008. We are praying that many of these churches will partner with us to reach Cameroon with the gospel.
Will you pray along with us that the Lord will allow us to reach our goal of “Twenty in Two?” We know that God is able to do great things for the sake of His name, and desire to see that happen in our lives. It would be such a blessing to know that many people are praying for us in this endeavor. Thank you for your prayers.
